Honky Tonk fuels 2nd half comeback from behind the arc

Dunwoody, GA
Brett Buchanan aka "Honky Tonk" fueled a 2nd half scoring spree that resulted in a 50-47 victory for the LATE SHOW in their season opener against DBC. Thursday night Buchanan, who finished with 13 points, went 3-4 from behind the arc in one stretch helping the LATE SHOW move to 1-0 on the season. Some late free throw woes by Honky Tonk allowed DBC to make the game much closer than it looked. DBC actually had two chances to tie the game with open 3s in the last seconds, but were unable to convert. The LATE SHOW did one thing well on the night and that is foul. Jay Andrews, Andy Davis, and Rob Coates ammased 4 fouls each on the night. Brett Buchanan had 3 fouls in the win.

Dennis Crilley had a sweet assist to Buchanan on his first three, and that is really all he did all night. Andy Davis contributed by blocking DBCs first shot attempt of the night and also nailed a 3 early in the first half. Davis also went 2-2 down the stretch from the charity stripe when the LATE SHOW was struggling to hold onto the lead. Rob Coates seemed to foul a lot and anger the other team into comments like "we aren't playing football". Overall Coates was 0-1 from three but showed a lot of hustle on his fouls. Not much was expected of Phil Kendall, but he was probably the biggest surprise of the night for the LATE SHOW. Although his offensive efficiency has yet to be determined, I think he could really help the LATE SHOW on D (when he is not yelling at the refs) later on this season. Jay Andrews, LATE SHOW team captain, started the teams scoring with an early three but it seems a long trip to Athens and a sweet haircut may have been on his mind during this game. If the LATE SHOW is to win a title, Captain Jay Andrews is just going to have to be better. Ray Greco, who was playing injured, seemed to be struggling a little with his offensive game. If he has no offense, what good is he. Greco promises he will bounce back in the teams next game on August 16th. Coach Aaron Gage seemed a little off his game offensively as he went 0-2 from the arc, but got into the open court and to the stripe effectivly in the 2nd half. Gage may be called on to shoulder a little more of the offensive load until the team establishes its offensive identity. Randy Satterfield was a no-show for the teams opener.

Coach Gage said after the game, "A bad win is better than a good loss". He also commented that, "I don't care if the score is 20-19, long as I got twenty".

The LATE SHOW is looking forward to its next game on Thursday August 16th. Opponent and time have yet to be determined.
